Does getting braces really change your face shape?

I have a slightly protruding mouth, so I am considering orthodontic treatment. When I look at before-treatment photos, I see many people whose facial impression seems to have changed not only in tooth alignment but also in their overall appearance.

In particular, there are many reviews saying that the profile looks prettier as the mouth recedes, and there are also comments about the jawline looking more defined or the face appearing smaller, so I'm looking forward to it but also curious.

On the other hand, there are also reviews saying that the cheeks looked thinner or the face looked longer after correction, so I am confused about what kind of changes occur.

Has anyone had braces?
