Can teeth get whiter just by getting a scaling?

I tend to drink coffee and tea often, so I think my teeth are quite stained.

I feel like my teeth look yellow every time I look in the mirror, so I'm considering teeth whitening, but people around me are telling me to get a scaling first.

But I'm curious if teeth can become noticeably whiter with just scaling.

They say it makes teeth look clean as tartar and stains are removed, but does it actually have a brightening effect, as if I had received a teeth whitening procedure?
