My skin hurts even though there are no wounds or bruises.

One day, I moved and touched my knee, and it hurt as if I had touched a scraped skin. I checked to see if there was a wound, but there was none, no scrape, and no bruise. Both knees were sore for a few days, but then they got better. I wondered what was going on. Why does the skin hurt without any reason?
