(Concern) Scar management after epidermal cyst surgery

My husband had a sebaceous cyst surgery and the stitches were all removed.

You no longer need to go to the hospital, but there is still a scar remaining on your back.

I didn't receive a prescription for scar ointment after surgery in the surgery department. Should I apply it anyway?

I am worried that if I leave it alone, a scar will form.

Please recommend which scar ointment would be best to apply.
