There's something like xylitol that's sold at pharmacies. Does it work for sore throats?

I bought this because it's something like xylitol, sold in pharmacies and on the market. They say it relieves dry mouth and bad breath, and it's also effective for sore throats! Is it true that xylitol is effective for sore throats? I'm not sure about that part specifically. If you know what xylitol is effective for, please let me know~~
