I haven't been able to visit the dentist even once during the COVID-19 pandemic~ Even before COVID-19, I was most afraid of going to the dentist among hospitals, and with COVID-19 spreading, I couldn't go to the dentist..

It aches and feels sharp when I drink water, so I think I need to go to the dentist.

In the past, I used to visit the dentist once a year for scaling, mainly because of the scaling itself...

Because I moved from another area, I didn't know where to go for a dentist in my current neighborhood!

So I randomly visited the closest place near my house, thinking I might as well get a check-up and a scaling done while I was there, but I hesitated a lot even at the entrance...

Thanks to the kind staff, my tension eased, but when I entered the consultation room, my heart was pounding wildly again. The doctor I met in the consultation room was also very kind, and their voice was pleasant, which helped me relax and feel comfortable. Fortunately, my condition was okay, and there was no urgent need for treatment. They said a scaling would make me feel refreshed, so I had the scaling done...

I dislike scary things and am sensitive to pain, but they customized the scaling for me so it wouldn't hurt!

Wow~ I completed the scaling without making a single sound!

 

What is scaling?

A procedure to remove tartar from the surface of the tooth above the junction epithelium

 

It refers to a procedure that involves scraping off hard substances or removing scales, specifically the removal of tartar from the surface of the tooth above the junctional epithelium.

It involves physically removing hard deposits (such as tartar) or soft deposits (such as plaque, food debris, and extrinsic stains) attached to natural or artificial teeth within the oral cavity, and smoothing the tooth surface to prevent roughness or reattachment. Generally, it is ideal to perform periodontal scaling every 6 months, but for those with heavy plaque or tartar buildup, a 3-month interval is recommended, while individuals with good brushing habits and oral hygiene may only need scaling once every 12 months. This procedure is commonly performed on a yearly basis.

The main oral diseases, dental caries (tooth decay) and periodontal disease, occur as plaque on the teeth develops into tartar. There are areas within the mouth that are difficult to clean with brushing or oral hygiene aids due to anatomical and morphological structures. Over time, the tartar hardens and becomes difficult to remove with just brushing. Scaling is effective in removing plaque and tartar, cleaning the tooth surface, eliminating bad breath, and preventing oral diseases such as periodontal disease. It is important to note that teeth whitening and scaling are different procedures!

Undergoing scaling does not whiten your teeth; it simply removes tartar, nicotine, and extrinsic stains along with the tartar during the procedure, so please understand that it is not intended for teeth whitening. 😃

 

You provided thorough guidance before and after the scaling procedure and kept reminding me of the precautions, which was very helpful! The procedure time varies for each person, but since I haven't been there in a while, it lasted over 30 minutes.
