Preoperative examination for cataract surgery.
After dilating the pupils through a Shandong examination, a slit-lamp microscopy examination (a type of microscopic examination that enlarges the eye up to 40 times for detailed viewing) is performed to assess the degree and location of lens opacity. Cataracts are classified mainly into anterior capsular cataracts, nuclear sclerosis cataracts, and posterior capsular cataracts based on the location of the opacity observed during the examination.
Cataract surgery method
After creating small holes in the black or white part of the eye, an ultrasound device is inserted into this area to aspirate the cataract-affected lens, and a permanent artificial lens that resembles the natural lens is implanted in its place. Just as eyeglasses come in various thicknesses to accommodate different prescriptions, the power of the artificial lens is selected according to the patient's needs to ensure clear vision for near or distant objects, and it is implanted into the eye.
Postoperative treatment
You use eye drops such as antibiotics and anti-inflammatory agents for 1 to 4 weeks after surgery. During this period, the surgical site heals and vision recovers. After about 4 to 6 weeks, wearing glasses suited to the new eye may further improve vision. If the patient has other conditions besides cataracts, such as diabetic retinopathy, macular disease, glaucoma, or optic nerve damage, vision recovery may be delayed or the surgical results may not be satisfactory. For about one week after surgery, it is recommended to avoid strenuous physical labor, exercise, and activities that may allow dust or foreign objects to enter the eyes, and to rest. Watching television, reading books, and using computers are allowed. It is also advisable to wear a protective eye patch during sleep for about four weeks after surgery.
You have been wearing glasses for about 40 years, even after cataract surgery.
You continue to wear glasses, but the surgery went well.
