Perhaps because I slept cold last week, I woke up this morning with a cough, body aches, and chills. I wasn't feeling well when I went to work, and I decided to stop by the hospital on my way home to get better early. I told the doctor that my cough, chills, and body aches hadn't improved for four days. He suggested a flu test, which I did, similar to a COVID-19 test. He inserted the test kit deep into my nose. I've been tested for COVID-19 many times, but this was the first time I've seen someone do it so painlessly. I left the examination room for a moment, and the test results came back. I was diagnosed with influenza B. If it were a common cold, it would have cleared up in a day or two, but I felt like I wasn't getting better. The doctor asked me which treatment option I would choose, as the flu can be treated with IV fluids and pills. He explained that IV fluids would be covered by my insurance and that they were more effective than pills, so I told him I would go with IV fluids. After getting the IV, my chills and body aches were completely gone, and thankfully, I'm feeling fine today. I've heard there are a lot of colds and flu cases these days. It's recommended that you wear a mask to avoid catching them.
