Resistance exercise involves using the body, bands, or equipment such as weights to develop muscle strength and endurance by repeatedly contracting and relaxing the muscles. Typical resistance exercises include those using equipment like dumbbells, barbells, and bands, as well as bodyweight exercises such as squats, crunches, and push-ups.

 

Resistance exercise is known to increase muscle mass, boost basal metabolic rate, improve energy expenditure, enhance physical strength, prevent muscle loss, and improve bone density. In particular, resistance training is a good exercise to do indoors during the cold winter months.

 

However, there is a research finding (Mechanical overload-induced muscle-derived extracellular vesicles promote adipose tissue lipolysis) that suggests this resistance exercise significantly helps burn body fat. This is because muscle cells stimulated by resistance exercise regulate fat cell metabolism.

 

According to a research team at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in the United States, muscle cells respond to load by releasing particles that instruct fat cells to initiate fat burning mode. These particles are called extracellular vesicles, which are lipid bilayer particles released outside the cell.

 

Extracellular vesicles are known to selectively remove proteins, lipids, and RNA from cells. This study revealed that these extracellular vesicles also play a role in intercellular communication, facilitating the process of fat burning.

 

Resistance exercises that strengthen muscles stimulate the endoplasmic reticulum, activate fat burning, and influence overall metabolism.

 

The research team explained, "This study is significant in that it presents a new perspective on how skeletal muscles communicate with other tissues through the extracellular vesicles as a result of resistance exercise."

    이런 운동을 저항 운동이라고 하는군요. 공중에서 스쿼트 자세가 좋긴 하네요. 허리가 많이 아프긴 한데 스쿼트가 좋다고 하더라고요. 그래서 자주 자세를 취해보곤 합니다.
