What does it do?

Human plasma-derived coagulation factor XIII is a protein that plays a critical role in the coagulation process. This component is used to prevent or treat bleeding in patients with coagulation factor XIII deficiency in the blood. Coagulation factor XIII helps to increase the stability of the thrombus after blood clotting.

Coagulation factor XIII cross-links fibrin fibers in the coagulation process, making the thrombus more robust. As a result, the thrombus at the site of bleeding does not easily break down, assisting in the cessation of bleeding. When supplemented in deficient patients, it restores normal blood coagulation function.

Approved uses differ by product. Check each product's information for its actual use.

Good to know

Coagulation factor XIII specializes in maintaining the stability of the thrombus, unlike other coagulation factors. Unlike general coagulation factors, it acts in the later stages after thrombus formation, and deficiency is characterized by continued bleeding. Therefore, supplementation of coagulation factor XIII is only necessary for specific deficiency patients.
