Precautions
This medication contains sitagliptin and pioglitazone, each with specific precautions.
First, sitagliptin can occasionally cause severe allergic reactions, so if symptoms such as skin rash, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face or neck occur, immediate discontinuation of the medication and consultation with a doctor is necessary.
Additionally, sitagliptin may cause pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas; thus, if symptoms like abdominal pain, vomiting, or loss of appetite arise, inform medical personnel immediately.
Pioglitazone may worsen heart failure, so patients with heart failure or a history of heart failure should not take this medication.
During treatment with this medication, patients should regularly monitor for signs of heart failure such as weight gain, swelling, or difficulty breathing, and report any symptoms to their physician promptly.
Moreover, pioglitazone can increase the risk of bladder cancer, therefore, patients with current active bladder cancer or a past history of bladder cancer should not use this medication.
In cases of liver dysfunction or severe renal impairment, caution is advised in using this medication, and regular assessments of liver and kidney function should be performed.
Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid using this medication, and premenopausal women should take precautions against pregnancy.
This medication carries a risk of hypoglycemia; therefore, patients, especially those taking it with insulin or sulfonylureas, should frequently check blood sugar levels and be aware of hypoglycemic symptoms.
Additionally, if sudden joint pain or skin blisters appear during treatment, it is crucial to consult a doctor immediately.
Lastly, this medication may interact with various other medications; thus, patients taking other medications should inform their healthcare provider, and dosage adjustments may be necessary depending on the medications being used.
