This medication helps lower the levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It also has the effect of increasing HDL cholesterol, which is considered good cholesterol. It is used in conjunction with dietary therapy to more effectively improve blood lipid levels.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered once daily without regard to meals. The recommended starting dose is 2/10mg once daily. If the effect on lowering LDL cholesterol is insufficient, the dose may be increased to a maximum of 4/10mg once daily. The dosage should be adjusted appropriately at intervals of 4 weeks or longer. For patients with liver dysfunction, the recommended starting dose is 1mg once daily, and the maximum dose is 2/10mg once daily.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. It is contraindicated for patients who are allergic to any components of this drug, those with severe liver disease, severe liver dysfunction or bile duct obstruction, patients on cyclosporine, those with myopathy, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, nursing mothers, and in pediatrics. Caution should be exercised when administering to patients with slightly impaired liver function or those who consume alcohol excessively, patients with renal impairment, patients with hypothyroidism or a history of muscle disorders, elderly patients, and patients with severe muscle weakness. During the use of this medication, various side effects such as muscle pain, weakness, fatigue, indigestion, headache, dizziness, skin rash, and abnormal blood tests may occur. If symptoms occur, consult a physician immediately. Due to the risk of muscle damage, if muscle pain or weakness significantly worsens, discontinue use and consult with healthcare professionals. Regular liver function tests are required before and during treatment due to the possibility of liver function abnormalities. This medication should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women, and women planning to become pregnant must consult with healthcare professionals. This drug may interact with other medications, so any current medications should be disclosed, particularly when taken with cyclosporine, fibrates, niacin, and antibiotics. This medication has not been confirmed for safety and efficacy in children, thus should not be used in this population. In elderly patients, side effects may occur more frequently due to decreased physiological functions, so caution is necessary. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote; treatment should be symptomatic, and liver function and muscle-related examinations should be conducted. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
