Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used in patients with type 2 diabetes where the combination treatment of Teneligliptin and Metformin is appropriate, to improve blood sugar control alongside dietary and exercise regimens.
This medication is generally administered once daily with the evening meal, and the 20/1000 mg sustained-release tablet is taken once a day as one tablet. The 10/750 mg or 10/500 mg sustained-release tablets are taken once a day as two tablets at the same time. The initial dosage should provide Teneligliptin 20 mg once daily along with the existing dosage of Metformin. The maximum recommended daily dosage is Teneligliptin 20 mg and sustained-release Metformin.
This medication is used to treat diabetes and may cause a rare complication known as severe lactic acidosis, therefore caution is required. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment or those with heart failure or liver dysfunction should not use this medication. This medication should be temporarily discontinued before radiological examinations and should be resumed only after confirming normal kidney function after the examination. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant are advised not to take this medication. When used in combination with other diabetes medications, there is a risk of hypoglycemia, so blood sugar levels should be monitored closely. If symptoms such as sudden abdominal pain, vomiting, or shortness of breath occur during treatment, consult a doctor immediately. Elderly patients are at a higher risk of renal function decline, and regular kidney function tests and dosage adjustments are necessary. Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis and should be avoided. Regular blood tests are necessary as vitamin B12 levels may decrease, and appropriate measures should be taken if abnormalities are found. Patients scheduled for surgery should discontinue this medication 48 hours prior and resume only after confirming normal kidney function. During treatment, patients should fully understand the symptoms of hypoglycemia and responses to it, and should exercise caution when driving or performing hazardous tasks. If skin blisters or rashes occur during treatment, inform a doctor immediately, and consider discontinuing the medication if severe joint pain occurs. This medication may interact with certain drugs, so inform healthcare providers if taking other medications. It is generally not recommended for pediatric patients as safety and efficacy have not been established.
