Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medicine is an adjunct that helps patients with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar more effectively when combined with a diet and exercise regimen. The combination of teneligliptin and metformin works together to stabilize and improve blood sugar levels. Therefore, it is used to maintain a healthy lifestyle by facilitating consistent blood sugar management.
This medication is generally administered once daily with dinner, adjusting the dosage gradually to reduce gastrointestinal side effects related to metformin. The 20/1000mg extended-release tablet is taken once daily, 1 tablet at a time. For the 10/750mg or 10/500mg extended-release tablets, take 2 tablets at once, once daily. Patients who do not achieve adequate blood glucose control with metformin monotherapy should start with an initial dose of teneligliptin 20 mg once daily and the existing metformin dose. For patients transitioning from combined therapy with teneligliptin and metformin to this medication, the dosage may be initiated based on the existing doses of teneligliptin and metformin. When converting from immediate-release metformin to extended-release formulations, blood glucose control should be closely monitored, and dose adjustments should be appropriately made. When co-administering with sulfonylureas, consideration should be given to reducing sulfonylurea doses to minimize the risk of hypoglycemia. The maximum recommended daily dosage is teneligliptin 20mg and extended-release metformin 2000mg. The safety and efficacy of this medication in patients transitioning from other hypoglycemic agents has not been specifically evaluated. Any changes in treatment for type 2 diabetes should occur under careful monitoring due to the potential to induce changes in blood glucose control. To maintain the extended-release properties, this medication should not be split, crushed, chewed, or broken but swallowed whole.
This medicine is used in the treatment of diabetes and helps in regulating blood sugar. However, there are several precautions to consider when taking this medication. Firstly, a very rare but serious side effect known as lactic acidosis may occur, which is a condition where excessive lactate builds up in the body and can be dangerous. This symptom is more frequently observed in patients with impaired kidney function or problems with the heart or liver, so individuals with such ailments should not use this medication. Additionally, when taken along with insulin or other diabetes medications, hypoglycemia may occur, so blood sugar levels should be monitored periodically, and if symptoms of hypoglycemia appear, sugar should be consumed immediately. Patients with moderate to severe kidney impairment, severe heart failure, those recovering from acute infections or major trauma, patients scheduled for surgery, individuals with liver dysfunction, and women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take this medication. Patients with a history of abdominal surgery or bowel obstruction, those at risk of cardiac arrhythmias like QT interval prolongation, or those with symptoms of acute pancreatitis should consult a doctor and use caution when taking this medication. Some patients may experience side effects such as constipation, abdominal pain, dizziness, and serious side effects such as liver dysfunction, pneumonia, skin rash, and acute pancreatitis have been reported rarely. During treatment, regular kidney and liver function tests should be conducted, and vitamin B12 levels may decrease, so checking through blood tests is advisable. Moreover, alcohol consumption may increase the risk of lactic acidosis, hence it is recommended to avoid drinking while taking this medication. It is advised that women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication, and safety in pediatric patients has not been established. Elderly patients may experience decreased kidney function; thus, dose adjustments and regular function tests are necessary. In the case of overdose, immediate medical care should be sought, as this medication can be removed through hemodialysis. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent exposure to air or moisture and is best kept at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Storing it this way helps maintain the medication's effectiveness and prevents degradation.
