Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to help control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. It is administered in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapy, and can be taken by individuals who have not previously received diabetes medication treatment. If blood sugar control is insufficient with monotherapy using Metformin or Sitagliptin, this medication can be either substituted for or used in combination. It can also be taken alongside Metformin when blood sugar control is inadequate during combination therapy with sulfonylurea, or Metformin with thiazolidinedione. If blood sugar control remains inadequate when using insulin and Metformin together, therapy can be augmented with this medication. It is utilized in various therapeutic situations to improve blood sugar control.
This medication is generally taken twice a day with food, and the dosage should be gradually increased to reduce gastrointestinal adverse effects associated with Metformin. The initial dosage is determined based on the patient's current treatment regimen. 1. Patients not currently treated with Metformin: Take this medication 50/500 mg, 1 tablet twice a day. The dosage can be increased to 50/1000 mg, 1 tablet twice a day.
This medication contains Sitagliptin and Metformin, and is used in the treatment of diabetes. Severe hypersensitivity reactions may occur while taking this medication, so if symptoms such as rash, hives, or difficulty breathing arise, discontinue use immediately and consult a physician. Acute pancreatitis has been reported, so if abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe abdominal discomfort occur, inform healthcare professionals immediately. This medication should not be used in cases of severe renal impairment or conditions that may affect kidney function such as acute heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, or severe infection. Before and after examinations using iodinated contrast agents, the administration of this medication should be discontinued, and it can only be resumed once normal kidney function is confirmed. It is safer not to take this medication during pregnancy or if pregnancy is possible, and it is not recommended for nursing mothers. Elderly patients are at a higher risk for decreased renal function, so kidney function should be regularly monitored and dosage adjusted accordingly. This medication can cause a rare but serious side effect called lactic acidosis, so if symptoms like sudden muscle pain, weakness, difficulty breathing, or abdominal pain occur, inform your doctor immediately. There is also a risk of hypoglycemia, especially when used in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylureas, so blood sugar levels should be carefully monitored. Alcohol may increase the risk of side effects from this medication, so excessive drinking should be avoided while taking it. Medication should be discontinued for a period before and after surgery, and it can be resumed only after the patient's condition stabilizes and kidney function is verified as normal. Regular blood tests and kidney function tests should be conducted while taking this medication, and periodic monitoring of vitamin B12 levels is recommended. Lastly, if any new symptoms or adverse reactions arise during treatment with this medication, consult healthcare professionals immediately.
