Effectiveness in treating gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers and alleviating symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease with maintenance therapy
This medication is used to treat gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It is also effective in alleviating symptoms associated with erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is used in long-term maintenance therapy for gastroesophageal reflux disease to prevent symptom recurrence and improve quality of life. In summary, this drug is used to treat gastrointestinal and esophageal diseases and alleviate symptoms.
Administer 10/500 mg or 20/500 mg orally once daily. - Gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers: Typically, 10/500 mg is administered once daily, and depending on symptoms, 20/500 mg can be taken once daily. Treatment duration is up to 8 weeks for gastric ulcers and 6 weeks for duodenal ulcers. - Erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: 10/500 mg or 20/500 mg is taken once daily for 4 to 8 weeks.
Safety for children has not been established.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. It should not be administered to individuals who have had an allergic or hypersensitivity reaction to this drug or its components. Additionally, patients taking Atazanavir or Rilpivirine should not use this drug. It is also not recommended for women who are pregnant or nursing. Patients with impaired liver function, kidney problems, elderly patients, and those with heart or lung dysfunction should use this drug cautiously. In particular, patients with severe ulcers in the gastrointestinal tract or a history of drug allergies should be careful. Those with electrolyte imbalances or who need to limit sodium intake should also exercise caution when using this medication. This drug can have various side effects. Skin rash or itching, hives, changes in blood cell counts, or liver dysfunction may occur. It may affect the heart or vascular system and gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting may present. Neurological symptoms include headaches, dizziness, insomnia, and anxiety, and, rarely, confusion or seizures may occur. Respiratory symptoms such as cough or difficulty breathing may be experienced, along with muscle aches or joint pain. Long-term use of this medication may increase the risk of fractures related to osteoporosis, and hypomagnesemia, a decrease in serum magnesium levels, can occur rarely. In this case, magnesium supplementation may be necessary. This drug suppresses gastric acid secretion, reducing acidity in the stomach, which may slightly increase the risk of gastrointestinal bacterial infections. In particular, persistent diarrhea may raise the possibility of Clostridium difficile infection. Caution is needed for drowsiness when driving or operating machinery. This medication may interact with some drugs; therefore, individuals taking other medications must inform their healthcare provider. Particular caution is needed when used with warfarin, methotrexate, certain antifungals, and antivirals. It is advisable not to use this drug during pregnancy or lactation. Elderly patients should use it cautiously as they may experience adverse reactions due to decreased liver function, and should temporarily discontinue use if symptoms occur. This drug's safety for children has not been established, so it should not be used in pediatric cases. When taking this medication, tablets should not be chewed or crushed, and should be swallowed whole, keeping them out of children's reach. Long-term use may lead to the development of polyps in the stomach; therefore, it is preferable to use the minimum required dose and for the shortest duration needed. In the case of overdose, no specific antidote is available, and appropriate treatment should be given according to symptoms.
