This medication is used in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and erosive esophagitis. It is also effective as a long-term maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients with esophagitis. It can be used to alleviate symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease even in patients without esophagitis, reducing discomfort. Specifically, it mitigates the regurgitation phenomenon between the stomach and the esophagus, protecting the esophageal mucosa, and improving symptoms. This medication aids in symptom relief and prevents recurrence.
