How to take

Adult dose

This medication can be taken alone or usually combined with metformin if there is no prior experience of diabetes medication. The recommended dosage is 50 mg once a day in the morning or 100 mg divided into 50 mg twice daily in the morning and evening. When glucose control is not sufficient with monotherapy of metformin or thiazolidinedione, the recommended dose when used in combination is 100 mg per day, divided into 50 mg twice daily in the morning and evening.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to specific ingredients. It should not be administered to patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic metabolic disorders should also not use this medication. During treatment, liver function abnormalities may occur, so regular liver function tests are necessary. If liver function tests show severely elevated levels, the medication should be discontinued and not restarted until liver function is restored. Care should be exercised in some patients with heart failure, and use should not be recommended in cases of severe heart failure. If skin blistering or ulceration occurs, immediate consultation with a physician is necessary. There is a risk of acute pancreatitis, so if symptoms of pancreatitis appear, the medication should be stopped and healthcare personnel should be notified. When used with other diabetes medications that can cause hypoglycemia, there may be an increased risk of hypoglycemia, necessitating dosage adjustments. If symptoms such as dizziness occur, it is advisable to avoid driving or operating machinery. Severe joint pain may occur, so consideration should be given to stopping the medication if such symptoms arise. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not use this medication for safety reasons. While no special dosage adjustments are required for the elderly, use is not recommended for children or adolescents under the age of 18. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so appropriate treatment should be provided based on symptoms, as the medication is not removed by hemodialysis. The medication should be stored in a safe place out of the reach of children, and it should not be transferred to other containers.
