This medication helps to lower serum total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, and increases HDL cholesterol levels. It can also be used as an alternative therapy in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, either in conjunction with other lipid-lowering treatments or when such treatments are ineffective. This medication is used alongside dietary interventions and is administered when the patient does not adequately respond to non-pharmacological measures, such as limiting saturated fat and cholesterol intake. It is important to identify and manage secondary causes of dyslipidemia related to other diseases or medications. Additionally, lipid levels should be regularly monitored to evaluate treatment efficacy. This medication is used to improve cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Precautions

This medication is used to lower blood cholesterol levels. During the usage of this medication, symptoms such as muscle pain, muscle spasms, and muscle weakness may occur, which can rarely progress to serious muscle damage. Precautions are necessary for patients who have risk factors such as acute infections, hypotension, after major surgery, trauma, or severe metabolic disorders, and immediate consultation with a physician is required if these symptoms appear. Patients allergic to any ingredient in this medication, patients with severe liver disease, patients with muscle disorders, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and breastfeeding women should not take this medication. Patients with impaired liver function or those who consume alcohol excessively may be at risk of liver damage when taking this medication, requiring regular liver function tests. This medication can interact with various other drugs, particularly those that inhibit or affect enzymes that metabolize drugs in the liver, which can increase the risk of muscle damage; therefore, patients must inform their physician of any other medications they are currently taking. It is also important to monitor liver function and muscle enzyme levels through regular blood tests while taking this medication. Elderly patients or patients with impaired kidney function are also at risk of muscle damage when taking this medication, and caution is required. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication to protect the health of the fetus and infant, and women of childbearing potential should use appropriate contraception while under treatment. Dizziness or fatigue may occur while taking this medication, so caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and treatment and supportive therapy should be administered based on symptoms, with monitoring of liver function and muscle condition needed. Finally, this medication is not recommended for children as its safety and efficacy have not been established.
