Improvement of lipid levels through reduction of cholesterol and increase of HDL in patients with hypercholesterolemia (primary, homozygous familial) and dyslipidemia
This medication helps to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, triglycerides, and non-HDL-cholesterol in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, while also increasing HDL-cholesterol. It is particularly used as an adjunct treatment in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, either in conjunction with other therapies or as an alternative. This medication is administered alongside appropriate dietary changes and lifestyle modifications, and is effective as part of a comprehensive treatment plan rather than as a standalone treatment. It also assists in safely and effectively controlling lipid levels in patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease. Prior to administration, it is important to identify and treat any underlying causes of dyslipidemia as necessary. This medication is used to improve blood lipid levels associated with dyslipidemia, thereby enhancing patient health.
This medication is administered once daily regardless of meals. For primary hypercholesterolemia, the dosage range is from 10/10mg to 10/80mg daily. The recommended initial dose is either 10/10mg or 10/20mg once daily. For patients requiring a significant reduction in LDL-cholesterol, the recommended initial dose is 10/40mg once daily. After initiation, blood lipid levels should be monitored with intervals of more than 2 weeks, and dosages adjusted accordingly.
This medication can rarely cause muscle damage resulting in severe kidney problems; therefore, if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs, consult a physician immediately. Persons with allergies to this medication's active ingredients or components, those with liver issues or elevated liver enzyme levels, individuals with muscle disorders, pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, and nursing mothers should not take this medication. Individuals at higher risk for myopathy, such as those with alcohol dependence, poor liver function, kidney issues, or hypothyroidism, as well as the elderly, should be particularly cautious when taking this medication, and dosage adjustments or monitoring may be needed at the physician's discretion. This medication can impact liver function, so it is important to undergo liver function tests before and during administration, and to promptly inform a physician if symptoms of liver damage (e.g., jaundice, nausea, vomiting, fatigue) appear. During treatment with this medication, if muscle pain, weakness, fatigue, fever, or other symptoms develop, consult a physician immediately and receive muscle enzyme tests if necessary. This medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist if taking specific antibiotics, antivirals, immunosuppressants, fibrates, etc. Women of childbearing age should use proper contraceptive methods to avoid pregnancy while taking this medication, and if pregnancy is confirmed, they should stop taking it immediately and consult a physician. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children have not been established, and it is generally not recommended for them. Although older adults are at higher risk for myopathy and should exercise caution when taking, special dosage adjustments are usually not necessary. In the case of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so management should focus on symptomatic treatment and monitoring of liver function and muscle enzymes.
