This medication helps to lower elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, while increasing HDL cholesterol levels. It is primarily used in conjunction with dietary therapy, and is administered as an adjunct when diet alone is insufficient. This medication is particularly suitable for patients at high risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia, and it is important to identify and address any secondary causes that may affect lipid levels due to other medical conditions or medications. Regular lipid tests are recommended during treatment for monitoring effectiveness, and in cases of acute coronary events, lipid levels should be checked at hospitalization to initiate appropriate treatment. Overall, this medication is used to improve dyslipidemia and reduce the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
