Precautions

This medication has a high sodium content, so it should not be used by patients who need to limit sodium intake. For instance, it is safe not to administer this to patients with hypernatremia, edema, pregnancy-induced hypertension, bladder stones, or hypertension. Moreover, this medication contains lactose, and should not be used in patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic issues. Patients with severe gastrointestinal ulcers, impaired kidney function, cardiovascular or pulmonary issues, and electrolyte imbalances should use this medication cautiously. When taking this medication, metabolic abnormalities such as alkalosis or edema due to sodium retention should be monitored closely, and if abnormalities are found, the dosage should be reduced or temporarily discontinued. In the gastrointestinal system, symptoms such as stomach bloating or belching, and rarely excessive gastric acid secretion may occur, hence this should be noted. Patients with heart failure, edema, or impaired kidney function should use it with particular caution, and when treating hyperacidosis, it is advisable to take it on an empty stomach and to use it with other antacids to reduce carbon dioxide irritation. Long-term use may lead to alkalosis, so regular check-ups are necessary. This medication increases the pH of the gastrointestinal tract and body fluids, which can affect the absorption or excretion of other medications, so caution is needed when using concomitant drugs. Additionally, taking it in large amounts with milk or calcium supplements may result in milk-alkali syndrome, so symptoms should be monitored closely, and if abnormalities occur, use should be discontinued.
