Inhibition of cardiovascular disease risk through reduction of cholesterol and lipid levels in hypercholesterolemia (primary, familial) and sitosterolemia
This medication is primarily used for the treatment of various forms of dyslipidemia associated with hypercholesterolemia. It is used as an adjunct to dietary measures to lower total and LDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, and in patients with mixed hyperlipidemia, it is administered in combination with other drugs to improve various lipid levels. Additionally, it is used in combination with existing treatment in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia when the current treatment is insufficient to enhance effectiveness. In patients with sitosterolemia, it helps lower sitosterol levels in conjunction with dietary measures. This medicine is used together with adequate dietary control and lifestyle improvements, and plays an important role in the process of excluding and managing other secondary causes. It is used to assist in the management of hyperlipidemia and associated vascular disease risk.
Once daily, take 10 mg, regardless of meals. When taking in combination with HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, start this drug at the recommended initial dosage of the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, and if already receiving high doses, continue the dose of the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor while adding this drug in. Patients with severe liver dysfunction are not recommended to use this drug, as unexpected side effects may occur if liver function is impaired. This drug is generally safe for use, but side effects such as headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and fatigue may occur, and if symptoms persist, consult with healthcare professionals. When using this drug in combination with other lipid-lowering agents, regular liver function tests and muscle-related tests are required, and if symptoms such as muscle pain or weakness appear, notify a physician immediately. Patients with reduced kidney function can also use this drug, but those with severe renal impairment require special caution. There may be interactions with other medications taken with this drug, so it is necessary to inform doctors or pharmacists about all medications being taken. Pregnant or lactating women must consult with healthcare professionals before taking this drug, and its use is not recommended for children under the age of 6.
