This medication is used for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It is particularly effective in reducing the occurrence of vertebral fractures. However, the effect on non-vertebral fractures has not yet been conclusively proven, so caution is advised. Overall, it helps improve bone health and reduce fracture risk.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet (20 mg of Bazedoxifene) once daily, regardless of meals.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of blood clots in the blood. The risk of venous thromboembolism such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and retinal vein thrombosis is particularly increased, therefore women at high risk for these conditions should avoid taking this medication. This medication is only for use by postmenopausal women, and its safety has not been established for premenopausal women, so it is not recommended. If uterine bleeding occurs while taking this medication, it is essential to seek medical attention, and there is no evidence that it causes endometrial hyperplasia. The safety of this medication has not been studied in breast cancer patients, and it is advisable not to use it for the prevention or treatment of breast cancer. Avoid taking this medication if there is an allergy to it or its components, a history of thromboembolic disease, being pregnant or possibly pregnant, breastfeeding, unexplained uterine bleeding, or symptoms of endometrial cancer. Also, this medication contains lactose, so it is safe not to take it if there is lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders. Patients with hypertriglyceridemia or severe kidney or liver impairment should be cautious about using this medication; especially in patients with liver impairment, the drug concentration in the blood may significantly increase, so it is not recommended. Common side effects may include facial flushing or leg cramps, and there may be an increase in blood triglycerides and liver enzyme levels. Caution is advised when driving or operating machinery as drowsiness or vision disturbances may occur, and it is best to avoid driving or using machines when symptoms are present. This medication is unlikely to interact with other drugs; however, taking it with drugs that induce certain liver metabolic enzymes may decrease the concentration of this medication. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take this medication and should discontinue if they are possible to become pregnant. It is not to be used in children, and although elderly patients do not require dosage adjustment, changes in liver function may increase drug concentration. In case of overdose, there are no specific antidotes, so treatment according to symptoms is crucial. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and stored in its original container to ensure safety.
