Relief of symptoms such as allergic rhinitis and chronic urticaria.
This medication is used to relieve symptoms of seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria, as well as itching associated with dermatitis and eczema.
Adults: administer 1 tablet (Levocetirizine Hydrochloride 5mg) orally once daily, regardless of meals. Adjust dose according to age and symptoms. Patients with renal impairment should adjust the dose according to kidney function (creatinine clearance). Mild (50 ≤ CLCR < 80): 1 tablet once daily Moderate (30 ≤ CLCR < 50): 1 tablet every other day Severe (10 ≤ CLCR < 30): 1 tablet every three days
Children aged 6 years and older: administer 1 tablet (Levocetirizine Hydrochloride 5mg) orally once daily, regardless of meals.
This medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to specific components or who have an allergy to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives. It is safer not to administer this medication to patients with very poor kidney function or those undergoing dialysis. Pregnant women, women who may become pregnant, and nursing mothers should not take this medication. This medication should not be used by infants under 1 year, and children under 6 years should be administered in liquid form rather than tablets. This tablet contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance, certain lactose hydrolysis enzyme deficiencies, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. Patients with impaired kidney or liver function, and the elderly should use this medication cautiously as its blood concentration may remain elevated. Taking this medication may cause neurological symptoms such as drowsiness, headache, dizziness, and fatigue; caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may also occur, and if symptoms are severe, consultation with a doctor is advised. Rarely, cardiac symptoms such as increased heart rate, arrhythmias, and elevated blood pressure may manifest. Hematological side effects such as leukopenia or platelet abnormalities may occur, so notify a healthcare provider of any unusual symptoms. Allergic reactions such as photosensitivity, rash, itching, and edema may occur; therefore, it is important to monitor for skin symptoms. Eye-related symptoms like blurred vision or conjunctival injection have also been reported. Liver function test values may increase, so caution is necessary in patients with liver disease. Severe drowsiness or fatigue may occur after taking this medication, so it is advisable to avoid combining it with alcohol or central nervous system depressants. Patients with urinary excretion disorders should be especially cautious when taking this medication. Combining this medication with alcohol may significantly increase drowsiness or decrease concentration, so it is best to avoid co-administration. Pregnant or nursing women should not use this medication, and women planning to become pregnant should consult a physician before taking it. In children under 12 years, special caution is needed due to limited safety and dosage data. Elderly patients should start at a low dose and be monitored, as their kidney function may be impaired. It is recommended to discontinue this medication before conducting allergy tests, as it may affect test results. Overdose may lead to symptoms such as drowsiness, agitation, and restlessness, and since there is no specific antidote, appropriate treatment should be provided based on symptoms. Moreover, it is difficult to remove this medication through dialysis, so caution is advised in case of overdose.
