Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus, especially during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to specific components or severe liver dysfunction, and patients with significantly reduced kidney function. It should be used with caution in cases of electrolyte imbalance such as hypokalemia, hyponatremia, or hypercalcemia, especially in patients with poor kidney or liver function, elderly patients, and patients with heart disease. Patients may experience dizziness or drowsiness while taking this medication, so caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. Do not take potassium supplements or potassium-containing medications without consulting a physician. This medication lowers blood pressure, so if symptoms of hypotension occur, consult a physician immediately. Be cautious as blood pressure may drop sharply due to dehydration or excessive sweating. It is important to regularly monitor electrolyte levels and kidney function during treatment to ensure there are no abnormalities. This medication may interact with other antihypertensives, diuretics, lithium preparations, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, etc., so it is essential to inform the physician of any other medications being taken. Hydrochlorothiazide may cause sensitivity to sunlight, so caution should be exercised regarding UV protection and skin care during treatment. In cases of overdose, serious side effects such as hypotension, arrhythmias, and electrolyte abnormalities may occur, requiring immediate medical attention. Safety and efficacy have not been established in children, and although no special dosage adjustment is needed for the elderly compared to normal adults, care should be taken for side effects. This medication should be stored away from moisture and direct sunlight, and out of reach of children.
