Improvement in blood pressure control for essential hypertension
Amlodipine or olmesartan medoxomil is used for the treatment of essential hypertension and helps effectively lower blood pressure when monotherapy does not adequately control it. This can reduce the risk of cardiovascular complications arising from hypertension. This medication works by dilating blood vessels or regulating blood pressure, improving health. Therefore, it is used to achieve appropriate blood pressure control in patients with essential hypertension.
This medication is administered 1 tablet once daily, with or without meals, preferably at the same time each day (e.g., in the morning). The maximum dosage is 10/40 mg. The recommended dosages are as follows: - 5/20 mg: Administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with 5 mg of amlodipine or 20 mg of olmesartan medoxomil monotherapy. - 10/20 mg: Administered to patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with 20 mg of olmesartan medoxomil monotherapy.
The safety and efficacy of this medication for pediatric patients under 18 years of age have not been established.
This medication can cause serious harm or death to the fetus and newborn if taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Patients who are allergic to the active ingredients or similar classes of drugs, pregnant women, nursing mothers, those with severe liver impairment or certain heart diseases, patients undergoing kidney dialysis, patients in shock, and those with specific diabetes conditions should not take this medication. Patients with hypotension due to lack of fluids or salt may experience initial hypotensive symptoms upon taking the medication, so their condition should be carefully monitored, and appropriate treatment should be received if hypotension occurs. Rapid dilation of blood vessels may lead to hypotension, so special caution is required for patients with valvular heart disease. Patients with heart failure should use this medication cautiously, and patients with reduced kidney function may experience renal function changes, requiring careful monitoring. Patients with impaired liver function should also be cautious when taking this medication. This drug may cause various side effects such as dizziness, headache, hypotension, edema, dyspepsia, skin rash, etc., so any unusual symptoms should be discussed with a healthcare professional. Nursing mothers should be aware that this medication can be transmitted through breast milk and may affect infants, so it is advisable to discontinue breastfeeding or the medication. This medication is not recommended for children under 18 years of age as its safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly patients may have increased drug concentrations in the body due to reduced kidney and liver function, so dose adjustments and careful monitoring are necessary. In cases of overdose, hypotension and heart function decline may occur, necessitating immediate medical attention for proper treatment. This medication should be stored in a sealed container to avoid exposure to direct sunlight and moisture, and it should not be transferred to another container. During treatment with this medication, there may be interactions with certain drugs, so healthcare providers should be informed if other medications are being taken.
