Treatment of inflammatory diseases of the external eye and anterior segment (blepharitis, conjunctivitis, etc.)
This medication is effectively used for various inflammatory diseases of the eye, from blepharitis, conjunctivitis, keratitis, scleritis, to iritis. It also helps with complex ocular inflammation such as episcleritis, iridocyclitis, and uveitis, as well as postoperative inflammation. It is used to improve these various ocular inflammations, reduce patient discomfort, and restore eye health.
Instill 1-2 drops, 2-4 times a day. Adjust according to symptoms.
This medication should not be used in patients with viral keratitis, fungal eye diseases, mycobacterial infections, and chronic blepharitis. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication should also not receive it. Principally, it is not to be used in patients with corneal epithelium damage or ulcers, patients with tuberculous or purulent eye diseases, glaucoma patients, and children under 2 years of age, but if unavoidable, must be administered with caution. Long-term use of this medication can increase intraocular pressure, leading to optic nerve damage or vision loss, so regular intraocular pressure checks are necessary. Being a corticosteroid, it can worsen conditions such as herpetic keratitis or fungal infections, and serious side effects such as corneal perforation may occur, so caution is needed. With prolonged use, there can be an increased risk of posterior subcapsular cataracts or secondary ocular infections. In cases of acute purulent ocular infections, this medication may obscure or worsen symptoms, making it essential to seek medical advice. This medication contains phosphate, which can occasionally cause corneal calcification in patients with severe corneal damage. After cataract surgery, there could be delayed wound healing or blisters, so caution is necessary. Long-term use can suppress pituitary and adrenal cortex function, thus body conditions should be closely monitored. If any symptoms of hypersensitivity appear, usage should be immediately stopped. Using this medication on a reddened eye without medical diagnosis can lead to blindness, so consultation with a specialist is essential. Patients with a history of herpes simplex require careful monitoring and regular check-ups. If used longer than 10 days, even in patients who are difficult to cooperate with, regular intraocular pressure checks are necessary. This medication is ineffective for certain types of keratitis, so if symptoms persist or worsen beyond 48 hours, usage should stop and consultation with a physician should occur. Contact lens wearers should remove lenses before instillation and may reinsert them at least 30 minutes after administration. Temporary blurring of vision may occur during instillation, so driving or operating hazardous machinery should be avoided. Serious issues may arise if infected with chickenpox or measles during usage of this medication, so it is important to check medical history and vaccination status and take precautions to reduce risk of infection. Children and patients taking certain medications (CYP3A4 inhibitors) have a higher risk of systemic side effects; hence careful, long-term treatment is required. When used concurrently with CYP3A4 inhibitors, systemic exposure may increase, raising the risk of side effects; thus, caution is warranted under a physician's guidance. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should avoid using this medication for extended periods or frequently, and nursing mothers should avoid administration or stop breastfeeding. Safety in infants and children has not been established, requiring caution in usage. Elderly patients may have decreased physiological functions, thus should use it with greater caution. This medication is for ophthalmic use only, and care should be taken to avoid contact of the container opening with the eye. Shake well before use, and avoid sharing to prevent contamination.
