This medication is used to improve symptoms such as ulcers, pain, and coldness caused by ischemic diseases like chronic arterial occlusion. It is also effective in preventing recurrence after a cerebral infarction. By aiding blood circulation and alleviating symptoms, it helps make daily life more comfortable for patients.
As cilostazol, the usual adult dose is 200 mg taken orally once a day. This medication should be taken on an empty stomach, avoiding meals.
This medicine may increase heart rate, which can lead to angina symptoms; therefore, it is necessary to closely monitor for symptoms such as chest pain. It should not be used in patients with a risk of bleeding, recent bleeding disorders, or those who have undergone surgery, and patients with congestive heart failure may experience worsened symptoms with this medication. This medication should also not be administered to anyone with a hypersensitivity to it or to pregnant or breastfeeding women. Patients taking anticoagulants or antiplatelet medications that increase bleeding risk should use this medication cautiously, and women who are menstruating should also be careful due to the risk of bleeding. Patients with coronary artery stenosis should be cautious as this medication may increase heart rate, leading to angina. Patients with severely impaired kidney or liver function may have elevated concentrations of this medication, necessitating careful administration, and diabetic patients should be cautious due to increased bleeding risk. Blood pressure control is crucial during treatment with this medication, and patients with persistent hypertension should adequately manage their blood pressure. This medication may cause dizziness, so precautions should be taken when driving or operating machinery, and it is recommended to take it on an empty stomach as taking it with food may increase the drug concentration. Since this medication is metabolized in the liver, its concentration can change when taken with certain medications; caution is needed regarding drug interactions, and it should not be taken with grapefruit juice. Pregnant women should avoid taking this medication as it may affect the fetus, and breastfeeding women should stop breastfeeding while taking it. The safety of this medication in children and newborns has not been established, so caution is needed for use. Older adults may have decreased body function, so dose adjustment may be required. In case of overdose, symptoms such as headache, diarrhea, hypotension, or tachycardia may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought. If abnormal symptoms like bleeding, fever, or sore throat appear during treatment, one should notify a doctor immediately and undergo examination, and if an adverse reaction is suspected, the medication should be discontinued.
