This medication should be swallowed with liquid such as water and must not be chewed or crushed. 1) Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks for reflux esophagitis. 2) Maintenance therapy for preventing recurrence in esophagitis patients: 20 mg once daily. 3) Symptom treatment for GERD without esophagitis: 20 mg once daily. If symptoms persist after 4 weeks, further medical evaluation is needed.
Children's dosage
Adolescents over 12 years: 1) Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks for reflux esophagitis. 2) Maintenance therapy to prevent recurrence in patients without esophagitis: Symptoms treatment: 20 mg once daily.

This medication is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease and reflux esophagitis for prevention of recurrence. It is also effective for the treatment and prevention of recurrence of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. It is utilized in the treatment and prevention of upper gastrointestinal symptoms and gastric ulcers resulting from the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It can also be used as maintenance therapy after prevention of rebleeding due to gastric ulcers or duodenal ulcers. This drug effectively improves various gastrointestinal diseases.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For instance, patients who are allergic to this drug or its components, or have had hypersensitivity reactions to benzimidazole-based medications should not take it. Additionally, this drug should not be used in patients with allergies to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics among those used in combination for eradication of Helicobacter pylori. There are specific drugs that could pose a risk when taken with this drug, so patients must inform their physician or pharmacist about any medications they are currently taking. It is advisable for nursing women and patients with a history of myocardial infarction to avoid this drug. While taking this medication, various side effects such as headaches, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness, skin rash can occur, so patients should immediately consult healthcare professionals if any abnormal symptoms appear. Although rare, severe allergic reactions or severe skin diseases may occur, thus caution is necessary. Regular tests to check for abnormalities during long-term use are important. This drug reduces stomach acid, possibly increasing the risk of gastrointestinal bacterial infections and fractures, so patients with osteoporosis should be cautious. Furthermore, long-term use may lower blood magnesium levels, requiring blood tests for monitoring. As there is a possibility of interactions with other drugs, especially anticoagulants, antivirals, antibiotics, and antiepileptics, consultation with healthcare professionals is essential. The safety of this drug has not been sufficiently established during pregnancy or lactation, so consultation with a specialist is required before use. Urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis, shock, angioedema, severe edema, severe hypomagnesemia, mental confusion, seizures, visual disturbances, jaundice, hepatitis, liver failure, skin-mucosal syndrome (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell syndrome), acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, erythema multiforme, eosinophilia with systemic symptoms associated drug reaction (DRESS syndrome), rhabdomyolysis, myocardial infarction, deep vein thrombosis.
