Improvement in blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to assist in blood sugar control for patients with type 2 diabetes by complementing dietary and exercise regimens. It can be administered alone and may be used in conjunction with insulin if insufficient blood sugar control is achieved with oral hypoglycemic agents alone. Additionally, when there is inadequate efficacy from either sulfonylureas or metformin monotherapy, it can be co-administered with metformin to enhance blood glucose control. This medication helps improve patients' blood sugar management.
Adjusted individually for each patient. Take without chewing, with more than 1/2 cup of water. Administer once daily orally. It should be taken before breakfast or immediately before the first meal, and it is crucial not to miss a meal after administration. For monotherapy, the initial dose is 1 mg of glymeperide once daily, and if needed, increase by 1 mg at intervals of 1-2 weeks. Generally, it is administered at doses above 4 mg.
This medication should not be used in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, or those in a coma. It is also prudent to avoid administering this medication to patients with an allergy to this drug or its components, severe liver or kidney dysfunction, or in pregnant or breastfeeding women. In patients with severe infections, major surgeries, or severe trauma, conversion to insulin therapy is recommended. Care is necessary as gastrointestinal issues can affect drug absorption leading to a risk of hypoglycemia. Patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic metabolic disorders should not take this medication. During the first week of administration, the risk of hypoglycemia is high, so blood sugar status must be closely monitored, particularly in older adults, those with poor nutritional status, irregular meal patterns, those with impaired kidney or liver function, and those taking other medications. If hypoglycemic symptoms occur, sugar should be consumed immediately, and it is advisable to always carry sugar for this purpose. In case of severe hypoglycemia, immediate medical attention may be required, so one should go to the hospital promptly if symptoms occur. This medication must be used in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapy for blood sugar control and consistent intake is essential. There may be interactions with other medications, so it is crucial to inform healthcare providers about any other medications being taken. It is safest for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to use this medication and to consider switching to insulin therapy if necessary. Safety and efficacy have not been established in children under 18 years of age, so it should not be used in this population. In older adults, attention should be paid to dosage adjustment due to the common decline in renal function. In cases of overdose, severe hypoglycemia may occur, necessitating immediate first aid and professional treatment at a hospital. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in its original container.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be kept in a sealed container to prevent exposure to air or moisture, and it is suggested to store at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. Therefore, it is important to avoid direct sunlight and not to place the medication in excessively hot or cold locations to maintain its efficacy.
