This medication is used to treat adults with chronic constipation symptoms whose symptoms have not improved with the use of laxatives.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered orally and can be taken at any time of the day, regardless of meals. Adults: 2 mg once daily Elderly individuals aged 65 and older: The initial dose is 1 mg once daily, which may be increased to 2 mg once daily if necessary. For patients with severe renal impairment (GFR < 30 ml/min/1.73 m2), administer 1 mg once daily; no dose adjustment is needed for mild to moderate renal impairment. Liver impairment

Precautions

This medication should not be taken by certain patients. First, individuals with allergies to the active ingredient or excipients must not take this medication. Second, patients with severe kidney disease requiring dialysis should not take this medication. Third, it should also not be used in cases of severe gastrointestinal diseases such as bowel perforation, bowel obstruction, Crohn's disease, or ulcerative colitis. Fourth, this medication contains lactose and should not be administered to patients with lactose intolerance or genetic metabolic disorders. Additionally, in patients with very poor kidney function, dosage should be reduced and used cautiously. Patients with severe liver disease should also take this medication with caution and reduce the dosage. Caution is required in patients with a history of heart disease, especially when taken with drugs that can prolong the QT interval. Common side effects while taking this medication include gastrointestinal symptoms such as headache, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea. These symptoms generally occur early in treatment and often resolve naturally over time. Dizziness, fatigue, and palpitations have also been reported in some patients. If symptoms such as palpitations occur, immediate consultation with a physician is recommended. This medication may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives, so if diarrhea is severe, it is advisable to use additional contraceptive measures. There is a low potential for interactions with other drugs; however, caution is advised when taken with specific antifungal or cardiac medications. Additionally, drugs like atropine may reduce the effectiveness of this medication. Use of this medication during pregnancy is not recommended, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraceptive methods while taking it. The use of this medication is also not recommended for nursing mothers. This medication is not recommended for children or adolescents under 18 years of age. In case of overdose, symptoms such as headache, nausea, and diarrhea may occur, requiring appropriate treatment depending on the symptoms. In cases of fluid loss due to overdose, electrolyte supplementation may be necessary. Dizziness or fatigue may occur on the first day of taking this medication; therefore, caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Finally, this medication should be stored away from the reach of children and kept in its original container away from moisture.
