Prevention of zinc deficiency and improvement of nutritional status
Zinc may be depleted during total parenteral nutrition (TPN), so supplementation of zinc helps maintain serum zinc levels and supports immune function. This can improve overall nutritional status and help prevent complications.
Metabolically stable TPN patients: 2.5 to 4 mg/day Adults with fluid loss from the intestines: an additional 12.2 mg/L (amount of fluid loss) or an additional 17.1 mg/kg (amount excreted) Acute burn status: 4.5 to 6 mg/day Use according to a doctor's prescription and adjust the dosage based on the trace element levels in the plasma.
Children under 5 years: 100 µg/kg/day Premature infants weighing less than 3 kg: 300 µg/kg/day
This drug should not be administered directly into a peripheral vein without dilution. Direct administration into a peripheral vein can cause phlebitis and increase the risk of zinc loss through rapid intravenous injection. The amount of zinc included in this drug is very small, so typically, toxic symptoms are not present. When mixing this drug into a TPN solution, it is advisable to work in a laminar flow environment to maintain sterility. Before administration, visually inspect for any signs of precipitation or discoloration in the parenteral product. Administering zinc with copper may reduce serum copper levels, so plasma copper and zinc levels should be monitored at regular intervals for reference in dosing plans. This drug is primarily excreted through the intestines and kidneys, so patients with impaired excretory organs should consider the possibility of zinc accumulation in the body. The safety of this drug has not been established in pregnant women or women of childbearing potential, and it should only be used when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks. Zinc can cross the placenta and may be present in breast milk, so caution is required for pregnant and nursing women. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, dizziness, abdominal pain, drowsiness, and coordination disorders may occur and can be fatal in severe cases. Calcium supplementation may help prevent zinc toxicity. This drug should be kept out of reach of children and should be stored at room temperature in a dry place in its original packaging. Since it does not contain preservatives, any unused portion must be discarded.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This drug should be stored in a sealed container to prevent air ingress, and it is advisable to store it at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage helps maintain the drug's efficacy and prevent degradation.
