This medication assists in blood sugar control for patients with type 2 diabetes by combining Linagliptin and Metformin. When used alongside dietary and exercise regimens, it can help manage blood sugar levels more effectively. It is a drug that aids in improving your blood sugar control.
The dosage of this drug is determined considering the current treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerability of each patient, not to exceed the maximum recommended doses of Linagliptin 2.5 mg and Metformin 1000 mg taken twice a day. This medication is administered twice daily with meals. 1. For those not currently being treated with Metformin: Start with this medication at 2.5/500 mg, taking 1 tablet twice a day.
This drug may cause a rare but life-threatening serious side effect known as lactic acidosis, so it should not be used by patients with poor kidney function or those with heart or liver diseases. Additionally, patients who are allergic to the active ingredients or components of this medication, those with type 1 diabetes, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or individuals with acute infections or severe trauma should not take this medication. This medication lowers blood sugar, which may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used with other blood sugar-lowering agents; therefore, dosage adjustments should be made according to a doctor's instructions if used together. Elderly patients with reduced kidney function should have their kidney function regularly monitored, and if kidney function is severely impaired, this medication should not be used. Adverse reactions such as acute pancreatitis or blistering skin diseases may occur, so if there are persistent abdominal pains or blisters on the skin, inform medical personnel immediately. Vitamin B12 deficiency may occur, hence, if anemia or neurological symptoms arise, Vitamin B12 levels should be measured and supplementary treatment should be provided as needed. This medication may interact with certain drugs, so if you are taking other medications, you must inform your doctor or pharmacist, and especially before and after undergoing radiological examinations, it should be temporarily discontinued. Pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant should ideally avoid using this drug, and it should also be avoided during breastfeeding. It is not recommended for children under 10 years old, as safety and efficacy have not been established. The effects on driving or machinery operation are unknown, but caution is needed as symptoms like hypoglycemia may occur. In cases of overdose, gastrointestinal disturbances may appear, and lactic acidosis may occur; therefore, immediate medical treatment should be sought. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, in a cool, dry place, and in its original container.
