This medication is used for the treatment of osteoporosis in both postmenopausal women and men.

How to take

Adult dose

As sodium alendronate, take 70 mg once weekly in the morning with a sufficient amount of water at least 30 minutes before consuming food, beverages, or other medications. Take it immediately upon waking; do not lie down for 30 minutes after taking. Caution is required as consuming food within 30 minutes or simultaneously can decrease the drug's absorption. If a dose is missed on the scheduled day, take 70 mg the next morning.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the gastric and esophageal mucosa, and caution is required for patients with existing esophageal diseases, gastritis, duodenitis, ulcers, etc. If symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, pain behind the breastbone, or heartburn occur after taking, discontinue immediately and consult a doctor. It is important to take this medication with a sufficient amount of water and not to lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking. Continuing to take this medication after experiencing esophageal irritation symptoms increases the risk of severe esophageal damage. This medication should not be administered to patients with specific esophageal diseases, those unable to sit or stand, patients with hypocalcemia, severe renal failure, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or those with certain genetic diseases. During treatment, side effects such as gastrointestinal disorders, muscle or joint pain, headache, dizziness may occur, and if severe, a doctor should be notified. This medication can interfere with the absorption when taken with calcium supplements or antacids, so a minimum interval of 30 minutes should be maintained. Pregnant women should not take this medication, and breastfeeding women are also advised to avoid it. Safety in children and adolescents under 18 has not been established, so use is not recommended. Elderly patients can take this medication, but some elderly patients may be more sensitive to the drug, so caution is needed. Always follow the doctor's instructions regarding the correct dosage and administration, and it is important to manage calcium and vitamin D intake appropriately before and after taking the medication.
