Improvement of hypertension and diabetic kidney disease
This medication is used for the treatment of hypertension. It is particularly helpful in protecting kidney function and preventing kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes who have hypertension. This helps to effectively control blood pressure and reduce the risk of kidney complications. It can be used appropriately based on the patient's health status.
This medication can be taken regardless of meals, but it is recommended to take it at the same time every day. For adults with hypertension, the initial and maintenance dose of Losartan Potassium is recommended to be 50 mg orally once daily. The maximum blood pressure-lowering effect is usually observed 3 to 6 weeks after treatment initiation. If the therapeutic effect is inadequate, the dose can be split and taken twice daily or increased to a maximum of 100 mg once daily.

This medication should not be taken during pregnancy as it can cause serious harm to the fetus, so women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not take it. Especially in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, issues may arise with the formation of the fetus's lungs and skeleton, and if pregnancy is confirmed, the medication should be discontinued immediately. This medication should not be used in patients with specific diseases or allergies. For example, patients with severe liver dysfunction or a history of angioedema, as well as those with hereditary galactose intolerance, should not take this medication. Elderly patients, patients with hyperkalemia, patients with liver dysfunction, and patients with heart valve diseases should take this medication with caution. In particular, patients with weakened kidney function should have their serum potassium levels and kidney function checked periodically. This medication is generally safe, but side effects such as dizziness, muscle cramps, cough, and dyspepsia may occur. Rarely, serious side effects such as angioedema, liver dysfunction, or kidney failure may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms appear, medical consultation should be sought immediately. Furthermore, this medication may interact with other specific drugs when taken together, increasing the risk of side effects, so any currently taken medications must be disclosed to the doctor or pharmacist. During treatment, it is important to regularly check blood pressure and undergo blood tests to monitor kidney function and electrolyte status. While taking this medication, do not take potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium without medical advice, and it is advisable to avoid grapefruit juice.
