This medication helps prevent asthma and manage symptoms continuously. It is also effective in alleviating the uncomfortable symptoms of allergic rhinitis, which may occur seasonally or throughout the year. Therefore, it is used for the treatment of asthma and allergic rhinitis.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older: Take Montelukast 10 mg orally once daily. For the 10 mg orally disintegrating film, place 10 mg on the tongue and let it dissolve without water once daily. This medication should be taken once daily, with asthma patients advised to take it in the evening, and allergic rhinitis patients to determine the dosing time depending on their condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take it once daily, 1 tablet, 1 pack, or 1 sheet in the evening.

Precautions

This medication contains an artificial sweetener, aspartame, and should not be taken by patients with phenylketonuria, a genetic disorder that requires restrictions on phenylalanine intake. Additionally, the amount of aspartame in this medicine is regulated to be below the daily limit recommended by the World Health Organization, so care must be taken not to exceed the dose. Individuals allergic to this medication or its components should avoid taking it, and patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic disorders should also refrain from using it. This medication is not intended for use during acute asthma attacks; other emergency treatments should be used during acute symptoms. Although this medication can continue to be taken during periods of worsened asthma, it should not be abruptly switched out for other steroid medications. In cases where exercise-induced bronchoconstriction occurs, this medication should not be used alone, and an inhaled bronchodilator should be used in conjunction. Patients who are hypersensitive to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should not take these medications simultaneously while using this drug. Rarely, systemic eosinophilia and vasculitis symptoms may occur during the use of this medication, so if any abnormal symptoms appear, medical consultation should be sought immediately. In particular, neuropsychiatric symptoms or allergic reactions may occur, so if such changes occur, inform a doctor. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, it should only be taken when necessary and after consulting with a physician. Caution is needed for children, especially infants under 6 months, as safety and efficacy have not been established for this age group. In case of overdose, as there is no specific antidote, general symptomatic treatment should be sought, and care must be taken not to exceed the prescribed amount. This medication is sensitive to light, so it should be opened just before use and stored out of reach of children.
