Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with congenital metabolic disorders of specific amino acids. Severe side effects such as seizures or respiratory distress may occur in these patients. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as constipation, diarrhea, abdominal distension, abdominal pain, and vomiting may occasionally occur while taking this medication; thus, if these symptoms arise, the dosage should be reduced or temporarily discontinued. Since it may affect kidney function, potentially causing an increase in blood BUN levels, careful monitoring of kidney status is necessary, and adjustments or discontinuation should be made if abnormalities are found. Additionally, metabolic disorders may lead to increased blood ammonia levels, necessitating dosage adjustments in such cases. Liver dysfunction may cause elevations in AST, ALT, and bilirubin levels, as well as symptoms like skin rash and itching, so any unusual symptoms should prompt immediate consultation with healthcare professionals. This medication is used in patients with hypoalbuminemia, cirrhosis, ascites, edema, or hepatic encephalopathy, and effective use requires adequate food intake. If food intake is insufficient, nutritional guidance is necessary to improve nutritional status. It is advisable not to use this medication in patients with severe hepatic encephalopathy or significantly reduced liver function. As this medication contains only branched-chain amino acids, patients must consume sufficient protein and calories in their diet, and caution is needed for those requiring protein restriction. Prolonged excessive use may worsen nutritional status, so regular monitoring is essential. If symptoms do not improve after two months of use, other treatment options should be considered. Elderly patients, with decreased metabolic function, are at risk of elevated blood ammonia levels and should use this medication with caution. The safety of this medication has not been established for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, hence the benefits and risks should be carefully considered if used. Safety in children has not been established, so it is advisable not to use this medication in children. Lastly, this medication should be kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container should be avoided as it may cause accidents or degrade the quality of the medication.
