Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

As sodium hyaluronate, administer 25 mg once a week for 5 consecutive weeks into the knee joint or shoulder joint (shoulder joint cavity, subacromial bursa, or the biceps tendon sheath). Adjust the frequency of administration as needed based on symptoms. This drug is administered intra-articularly and should be done under strict aseptic conditions.

Precautions

This drug should not be administered to certain patients. First, it should not be used in patients who are allergic to this drug or its components. Also, patients with skin diseases or infections at the joint site should not use this medication. Patients with liver dysfunction or a history of liver disease should be cautious as liver function tests may become abnormal upon use. Patients allergic to avian proteins should also avoid this drug. Adverse effects may occur when using this drug. Anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction, may occur, so the patient's condition should be closely monitored after administration. If any abnormal symptoms arise, the use should be immediately discontinued, and appropriate treatment should be sought. Hypersensitive reactions such as swelling of the face or eyelids, skin rash, and itching may occur; if these symptoms develop, discontinue the medication and visit a hospital. Temporary pain, swelling, redness, and warmth may occur at the injection site, and in rare cases, severe pressure or bruising may occur. Nausea, vomiting, fever, and headache may also occur. It is advisable for patients with severe joint inflammation to reduce the inflammation before using this medication. After injection, it is important to stabilize the injection site and ensure that the solution does not leak outside the joint. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis or gouty arthritis may experience a temporary increase in inflammation, requiring monitoring. It is advisable to avoid intense exercise or prolonged weight-bearing activities within 48 hours post-administration. When used with other intra-articular injections, safety and efficacy have not been verified, so it is safer to avoid concurrent use. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should use this drug cautiously only when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks, as its safety during pregnancy is not established. This drug may be passed through breast milk, so breastfeeding should be avoided during treatment. Safety for pediatric use has not been established, so it should be used cautiously only when necessary. Elderly patients may have decreased bodily functions; thus, caution is needed for their use. This medication is injected into the joint, so it must be administered in a sterile manner, and if symptoms do not improve, use should be limited to a maximum of 5 injections. If there is an excess of synovial fluid, it may need to be aspirated as necessary. Intravenous administration is absolutely prohibited, and it is not used for eye-related treatments. Since this medication is viscous, care should be taken with the use of syringes and needles. After shaking the ampoule to allow the medication to collect well, it should be slowly drawn into the syringe. When cutting the ampoule, it is safe to cut it after disinfecting to prevent contamination. Caution is needed as the use of sterilizing agents can cause precipitation. This drug is for single use, so it should be used quickly after opening, and any remaining medication should be discarded.
