This medication helps reduce the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in adult patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease, especially those with risk factors for coronary artery disease. It is also effective in reducing the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in patients with type 2 diabetes who have cardiovascular risk factors. It is used to lower the risk of hospitalization for non-fatal myocardial infarction, stroke, angina, and congestive heart failure in patients with clinically documented heart disease. Additionally, this medication serves as an adjunct therapy to improve cholesterol and triglyceride levels in patients with hyperlipidemia and to increase HDL cholesterol levels. It is particularly useful for patients with various dyslipidemias who do not respond to standard dietary therapy, as well as for patients with familial hypercholesterolemia who are difficult to treat. Overall, it is effectively used to improve cardiovascular health and regulate lipid levels.
