Improvement of blood glucose control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to assist in controlling blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes through the combined administration of glimepiride and metformin. It is effective in managing diabetes by improving blood sugar levels in conjunction with dietary and exercise therapies.
This medication is taken 1-2 times daily before or with meals. Dosage may be adjusted based on each patient's current treatment regimen, effectiveness, and tolerability, and appropriate blood glucose monitoring is necessary. Typically, treatment begins at a low dose and may be gradually increased as needed. In clinical trials, the initial dose was 2 mg of glimepiride and 500 mg of metformin hydrochloride, with a maximum experience of 8 mg/2000 mg.
This medication can cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia; therefore, it should be temporarily discontinued if there is a rapid decline in kidney function or dehydration symptoms. It should not be given to patients with a kidney function below 45 mL/min/1.73m2, and caution should be exercised when the renal function is expected to fluctuate. As there is an increased risk of cardiovascular mortality in diabetic patients, careful counseling regarding the risks and benefits of this drug and other treatments is necessary. It should not be administered to patients with insulin-dependent diabetes, acute metabolic acidosis, severe hepatic dysfunction, pregnant or nursing women, and patients with severe renal impairment. There is a higher risk of hypoglycemia during the initial dosing period, so caution is especially warranted for patients with poor nutritional status, irregular meals, strenuous exercise, or alcohol intake. Gastrointestinal disturbances (such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc.) may occur, which are usually temporary, but if severe, medical consultation should be sought. If allergic reactions or severe skin rashes occur, discontinue use immediately and inform a healthcare professional. Long-term use may cause vitamin B12 deficiency, so regular blood tests are necessary. Interactions with other medications are frequent; therefore, consultation with a physician or pharmacist is essential before starting or stopping other drugs. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not use this medication, and nursing mothers should avoid it as well. Elderly patients may have an increased risk of side effects due to decreased renal function; thus, dose adjustments and regular renal function tests are required. In case of overdose, hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis may occur, so it is crucial to adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage, and if unusual symptoms arise, immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication requires caution when driving or operating machinery and should be kept out of reach of children.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be kept in a tightly sealed container that allows for proper ventilation and stored at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. This storage method helps maintain the drug's effectiveness and prevent deterioration.
