Precautions

This medication should not be used by individuals who are allergic to this drug or its components. Additionally, this medication contains lactose, so individuals with genetic disorders related to lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Patients with liver diseases such as chronic hepatitis or cirrhosis should be especially cautious when using this medication. Possible side effects of this medication include dry mouth, nausea, and skin rash; these symptoms may improve if taken with antihistamines. Transient jaundice may occur, but symptoms will resolve with discontinuation of the medication or by using jaundice treatment agents. Occasional nausea or abdominal bloating may occur but will naturally resolve over time. Using this medication alongside inosine may enhance liver function levels. Women who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breastfeeding should not take this medication. Due to potentially decreased physical function, elderly patients should take this medication with caution or at a reduced dosage. While it is rare for liver function levels to deteriorate significantly while taking this medication, if the medication is stopped, liver levels may improve when resumed. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children and kept in its original container, sealed tightly. Transferring to a different container may risk contamination or incorrect dosing, so caution is needed.
