Precautions

This drug is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic and can cause serious side effects such as tendinitis or tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, central nervous system effects, and exacerbation of severe myasthenia gravis. If any of these serious adverse reactions occur, use of this medication should be stopped immediately, and other drugs in the same class should not be used. It is not safe to use this medication in patients with a history of severe myasthenia gravis. This drug should only be used restrictively for certain infections such as acute bacterial sinusitis, acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and acute otitis media. Care should be taken in elderly patients, patients with impaired kidney function, organ transplant patients, and those using corticosteroids, as the risk of tendon rupture increases. Co-administration with corticosteroids should be avoided, and if symptoms of tendinitis or tendon rupture occur, immediate rest and avoidance of exercise should be implemented. Patients with severe myasthenia gravis may experience worsening symptoms, so caution is required in their use. This medication is contraindicated in patients with an allergic reaction to it or a hypersensitivity to quinolone antibiotics, in growing children under 18 years of age, pregnant or nursing women, and patients with epilepsy. Special caution is warranted in patients with severe renal impairment, central nervous system disorders, seizure history, elderly patients, diabetic patients, and those with G-6-PD deficiency when using this medication. This drug may cause severe allergic reactions, neuropsychiatric effects, cardiac rhythm disturbances, kidney and liver dysfunction, hematological abnormalities, gastrointestinal issues, musculoskeletal problems, and serious skin reactions, including pneumonia. If severe skin reactions or symptoms of phototoxicity occur, use should be stopped immediately. Diabetics needing blood sugar control should closely monitor blood sugar changes while taking this medication, and receive immediate treatment if hypoglycemic symptoms appear. This medication may interact with other drugs, especially non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antacids, iron supplements, calcium supplements, theophylline, and warfarin. Pregnant or nursing women should not use this medication, nor should it be administered to pediatric or growing adolescents. Elderly patients may have increased drug concentrations due to impaired kidney function, requiring dosage adjustment and monitoring. In the case of overdose, serious central nervous system symptoms and cardiac abnormalities may occur, requiring immediate treatment and observation. During the course of treatment with this medication, it is advisable to avoid strong sunlight or exposure to artificial ultraviolet light, and to be cautious of dizziness or drowsiness when driving or operating machinery. While this drug is effective for treating specific infections, it should only be used for the necessary duration to prevent the development of resistant bacteria, and any adverse effects should be reported to a physician immediately.
