This medication is used for the short-term treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It also helps relieve symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), such as heartburn and regurgitation. It is used as maintenance therapy for severe gastroesophageal reflux disease or poorly treated peptic ulcers. Therefore, it is effectively used to improve symptoms of various gastric-related diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken orally at least 1 hour before meals on an empty stomach. It should be swallowed whole with at least half a cup of water. Do not take with any beverages other than water. This medication should not be chewed or crushed. Adults 1) Gastric ulcer: Take 20/1,100mg once a day orally. Usually heals within 4 weeks, but may be extended for another 4 weeks if necessary. If there is no effect, take 40/1,100mg once.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to those with hypersensitivity to this drug or its components. Caution is necessary for those allergic to benzimidazoles, as serious reactions such as anaphylaxis, angioedema, or bronchospasms may occur. This medication is not administered to patients with gastric ulcers suspected of malignancy, as it may alleviate symptoms and delay diagnosis. It is also safe not to administer it to patients who need to limit sodium intake or those on certain antiretroviral medications. Patients with impaired liver function, elderly patients, those with severe gastrointestinal ulcers, renal impairment, or cardiopulmonary issues should use this medication cautiously. Particularly, patients with severe liver impairment should receive a reduced dose, and those with electrolyte imbalances should be monitored closely. This medication may cause various adverse reactions; common symptoms include headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and constipation. Rarely, decreases in blood cells, allergic reactions, hepatitis, nephritis, skin rashes, and myalgia may occur. Patients should consult a physician immediately if symptoms are severe. Long-term use may increase fracture risk and cause electrolyte disorders such as hypomagnesemia, requiring regular check-ups. If gastric cancer is suspected, it should be confirmed through examination before determining whether to administer this medication, and long-term use without medical instructions should be avoided. This drug has many interactions with other medications, so if there are other medications being used, it is crucial to inform a physician or pharmacist. Particularly, caution is necessary when taking with antiretroviral agents, anticoagulants, anticonvulsants, and certain antibiotics. During pregnancy, this drug should only be taken when necessary, and during breastfeeding, consideration should be given to stopping breastfeeding or discontinuing the medication. Safety and efficacy in children under 18 years have not been established, so it is recommended not to use it. Overdose may present symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, headache, and confusion; in such cases, it is essential to visit a medical facility immediately. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in its original container away from direct sunlight.
