Efficacy & effects

Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

For patients with essential hypertension, if blood pressure control is insufficient with monotherapy using telmisartan or amlodipine, additional treatment or other drug combinations may be necessary. These medications help lower blood pressure and play an important role in preventing cardiovascular diseases. Maintaining blood pressure control can reduce the risk of conditions such as stroke and myocardial infarction, so continuous treatment and management are essential. Effective management of hypertension through proper medication use improves health.

Precautions

This medication may cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, particularly in the second and third trimesters, so it should not be used by pregnant women or women who may become pregnant. Additionally, patients who are allergic to any component of this medication, have severe liver dysfunction, hypotension, or serious heart-related problems should avoid this medication. Patients with weakened liver or kidney function, especially those with significantly reduced kidney function, should use this medication with caution and under strict medical supervision. Elderly patients or those with specific heart conditions should also be cautious while using this medication and dosage adjustments may be required. Since this medication lowers blood pressure, symptoms such as dizziness or hypotension may occur at the beginning of treatment, and if these symptoms arise, the patient should lie down and rest immediately, and seek medical assistance if necessary. There is a risk of hyperkalemia (increased potassium levels in the blood) while taking this medication, so regular blood tests to check potassium levels are necessary. Also, this medication may interact with other drugs, so if the patient is currently taking other medications, it should be reported to their healthcare provider. Especially when taken with grapefruit juice, the effect may be excessively increased, so it is advisable to avoid it. Caution is needed while driving or operating hazardous machinery, as drowsiness or dizziness may occur. In case of overdose, severe hypotension or heart problems may occur, requiring immediate medical attention. Finally, this medication is not recommended for children, and breastfeeding women should avoid taking it.
