Prevention and treatment of vitamin C deficiency, promotion of capillary hemorrhage and bone fusion
This medication is used for the prevention and treatment of acute vitamin C deficiency known as scurvy. It is also helpful in situations where the demand for vitamin C increases, such as during pregnancy, lactation, or severe physical labor. It is effective for various symptoms related to vitamin C deficiency or metabolic disorders, including symptoms of capillary hemorrhage (nosebleeds, gum bleeding, hematuria, etc.). It can also be used in cases where drug intake may be affected. Additionally, it promotes bone matrix formation and consolidation in case of fractures, and aids in pigmentation and photosensitivity dermatitis arising from melasma or freckles. It is used comprehensively to improve and prevent various symptoms related to vitamin C deficiency.
As Ascorbic Acid, administer 50 to 1,000 mg daily in 1 to several divided doses by subcutaneous, intramuscular, or intravenous injection. Adjust appropriately according to age and symptoms.
This medication should be handled very carefully when cutting the container, as glass particles may mix with the solution. Extra caution is needed when used in children and the elderly. It contains sodium bisulfite, which can cause serious allergic reactions or asthma attacks in patients allergic to sulfites or asthmatics, so it should be administered cautiously. It should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or its components, individuals with hyperoxaluria, Mediterranean anemia, gout, cystinuria, G6PD deficiency, and those with a history of kidney oxalate stones. Side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, fatigue, flushing, headache, and insomnia may occur after taking this medication. In particular, taking more than 1 gram per day may increase the risk of diarrhea or kidney stones. Excessive intake can lead to the formation of stones in the urinary tract, so caution is advised, and this medication is primarily taken orally but may be administered as an injection only in acute situations or when oral intake is not possible. Co-administration with salicylates, aspirin, nicotine, alcohol, iron supplements, certain anticonvulsants, oral contraceptives, etc. may reduce the efficacy of this medication or increase side effects, so concurrent use should be avoided. During pregnancy, safety for the fetus is not certain, so it should only be used when absolutely necessary, and high doses of 1 gram or more should especially be avoided. It is safe to use within appropriate dosage limits while breastfeeding. This medication may affect the results of certain clinical tests, so it is important to inform healthcare personnel before being tested. Overdosage may lead to diarrhea or kidney stones and may also induce diuretic effects, so if symptoms occur, treatment should be stopped immediately. When administered by injection, there may be pain at the injection site, so the minimum effective dose should be used, and the injection site should be rotated. Intravenous injection should be administered slowly to prevent dizziness or phlebitis. This medication should be kept away from direct sunlight and stored in a dry place, out of reach of children. It should also be stored in its original container to maintain its quality.
