Efficacy & effects

Improvement in blood pressure control in essential hypertension through combined use of amlodipine or telmisartan

  • Essential hypertension
View approved original text

This medication helps effectively lower blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension who find it difficult to control their blood pressure with amlodipine or telmisartan monotherapy. Essential hypertension is a condition where blood pressure frequently rises, potentially increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. This drug stabilizes blood pressure by dilating blood vessels or regulating blood pressure. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled, using this medication can assist in managing blood pressure and preventing complications. Therefore, this medication is used in the treatment of essential hypertension.

Precautions

This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus, especially during the second and third trimesters, so it should not be taken by pregnant women or women who may become pregnant. This drug should not be given to patients with allergies to the active ingredients or with severe liver impairment, severe hypotension, or heart-related problems. Patients with compromised liver function or gastrointestinal disorders, or those with kidney issues should use this medication with caution and regularly monitor their blood pressure or kidney function. Side effects, such as dizziness or edema may occur while taking this drug; if unusual symptoms arise, consult a doctor. As blood pressure may drop too low, special care should be taken during the initial dose; if hypotensive symptoms appear, immediately lie down and rest, and seek medical attention if necessary. Since potassium levels may increase, caution is needed when taking this drug with potassium-rich foods or potassium supplements and certain diuretics. This medication may interact with other blood pressure medications and specific drugs, so if you are taking other medications, you must inform your doctor or pharmacist. It is advisable for breastfeeding women to avoid this medication, and it should be avoided during pregnancy planning or while pregnant. Safety and efficacy in children have not been established, hence it is not recommended for pediatric use.
