Improvement of blood pressure control in essential hypertension
Essential hypertension refers to a condition where blood pressure is persistently high, and additional treatment is necessary when blood pressure control is inadequate with either telmisartan or amlodipine monotherapy. This medication helps effectively lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, it is used to improve blood pressure control in essential hypertension.
The recommended dosage for adults is 1 tablet once daily, to be taken with water regardless of meals. It is advisable to take it at the same time each day (e.g., in the morning). For patients with renal impairment: No dosage adjustment is necessary for mild to moderate renal impairment; however, in patients with severe renal impairment, treatment should start with a lower dose, and the dose should be gradually increased. For patients with liver impairment: Patients with mild to moderate liver impairment should not exceed a daily dose of 40 mg of telmisartan.
The safety and efficacy of this medication for pediatric patients under 18 years of age have not been established, and its administration is not recommended.
This medication can pose serious risks to the fetus during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; hence, it should not be taken by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. If pregnancy is confirmed, the use of this medication must be discontinued immediately, and if necessary, it should be replaced with other safe medications. This medication should be used with caution or is restricted in patients with liver dysfunction, heart disease, hypotension, kidney problems, etc. Due to its strong blood pressure-lowering effects, symptoms of hypotension may occur, and appropriate treatment is necessary in such cases. There is a risk of elevated potassium levels in the blood, so caution is advised when taken with potassium-increasing medications. During the use of this medication, symptoms like dizziness and drowsiness may occur; therefore, care should be taken when driving or operating hazardous machinery. There may be potential interactions with other medications, so particularly inform healthcare professionals if other medications are being taken together with this one. It is advisable for breastfeeding women not to take this medication, and it is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years old. Elderly patients should take this medication cautiously with adjusted dosages. In case of overdose, serious symptoms like hypotension and arrhythmias may appear, requiring immediate medical attention. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
Urticaria, severe swelling (angioedema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash accompanied by high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in the oral/eye mucosa, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), extreme lethargy throughout the body, sudden and severe headaches, lightning-like headaches, seizures, altered consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis, and urinary issues.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication is sensitive to light and should be stored in a container that protects it from light. Additionally, it is best to keep the medication at room temperature between 1°C and 30°C. Proper storage will help maintain the medication's efficacy and safety.
