View approved original text

This medication is an absorbable hemostatic agent developed to prevent local bleeding, used when bleeding occurs from capillaries, veins, or arterioles during surgery. It is used as an adjunct when conventional ligation methods may not be effective, helping to stop bleeding quickly and safely. Thus, it serves as a very useful hemostatic adjunct when blood control is needed during surgery.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Cut into appropriate sizes and firmly adhere to the bleeding site or tissue surface until hemostasis is achieved.

Precautions

This medication is used directly on the bleeding site to assist with hemostasis. However, it should not be used to pack or fill spaces with cotton or similar materials. Particularly in cases where there is damage to the bone, it must not be used as it may interfere with bone formation or lead to cyst formation. It should also not be used in the presence of significant arterial bleeding. Additionally, its use on wound surfaces that produce non-bleeding serous exudates, or for the purpose of preventing adhesion is prohibited. Care should be taken when using this medication in areas where increased pressure may occur, such as around the bone cavities, spinal surgery areas, or near nerves. Increased pressure can cause nerve paralysis or damage, so it should be removed as soon as hemostasis is achieved. Using it on contaminated wounds and suturing can lead to complications, thus it should be used with caution. During urological surgery, only minimal amounts should be used, ensuring it does not obstruct the urethra or ureters. In ENT surgeries, care must be taken to prevent the patient from inhaling this medication. This medication may lead to the formation of membranes around body fluids or reactions to foreign substances. When used for vascular surgery to wrap blood vessels, caution is required as there is a risk of narrowing the vessels. If drainage or urination is required post-surgery, this medication may block the ducts, delaying discharge. Using it for nosebleed control or non-surgical purposes may result in burning sensations, pain, or sneezing due to the low acidity of this medication. Pain may also occur after nasal polyp removal or hemorrhoid surgery. This medication is supplied in a sterile state and should not be re-sterilized as it may damage the product. Any unused product after opening must be discarded as it cannot be re-sterilized. It should not be used instead of sutures in precision surgeries and is best kept free from mixing with other medications. Adding thrombin does not enhance the hemostatic effect. Using with corrosive substances such as nitric acid may hinder the absorption of this medication. While this medication can remain at the treatment site if necessary, it is advisable to remove it after hemostasis. Excessive breathing or manipulation during surgery may alter its position, especially if it remains in the body after spinal or cranial surgeries, posing risks of nerve damage or blindness. The physician must ensure to remove this medication after surgery. This medication has a broad antibacterial effect, but it cannot replace systemic antimicrobial agents for infection prevention post-surgery. In dental surgeries, it should be applied loosely and not used to fill vacant spaces. Moreover, using this medication moistened with water or saline can reduce its effectiveness, so it is important to use it in a dry state.
