This medication is used to treat ulcers that occur in the stomach and duodenum. It also improves erosive or ulcerative damage caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease, and is used as long-term maintenance therapy for symptom relief and recurrence prevention of gastroesophageal reflux disease. It is used in combination with antibiotics to provide effective treatment for patients with gastrointestinal ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. It is also applicable to conditions of excessive gastric acid secretion, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, contributing to symptom relief. Therefore, it is widely used for various gastrointestinal disorders to improve symptoms and assist in treatment.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with allergic reactions or a history of hypersensitivity to specific ingredients. Patients allergic to penicillin or macrolide antibiotics should also take caution, and those taking certain heart-related medications should avoid administration. Pregnant or nursing women should avoid using this medication. Patients with impaired liver function or the elderly may be more sensitive to drug side effects and should be administered cautiously. This medication can cause allergy symptoms such as skin rash, itching, or hives, so it should be discontinued immediately if such symptoms occur. Changes in red or white blood cell counts may appear in blood tests, so regular blood tests are necessary. Periodic liver function tests should also be conducted to check for liver damage, and if symptoms of hepatitis or jaundice appear, use of the medication should be discontinued. Various side effects related to heart issues, gastrointestinal problems, and neurological symptoms have been reported, so consultation with medical professionals is advised upon symptom occurrence. This medication can slightly increase the risk of bacterial infection in the stomach by suppressing gastric acid secretion, so if symptoms like diarrhea persist, visiting a hospital is necessary. This medication may interact with other drugs, so it is crucial to inform healthcare providers of any other medications being taken. Particularly, caution is needed when used in combination with antibiotics, anticoagulants, and certain antiviral drugs. Long-term use may cause vitamin B12 absorption disorders, so supplementary treatment may be required if necessary. The safety of this medication in children has not been established, so its use is not recommended. In case of overdose, no specific antidote is available, so appropriate treatment should be received based on symptoms. The tablets should be swallowed whole and not chewed or crushed.
